Application
Once you pass the test, you apply for the ADR card at an IMT counter (the fastest option: you get the receipt straight away) or through IMT Online

Completed IMT Form 5 (Modelo 5), copy of your Citizen Card or residence permit, copy of your Portuguese driving licence, copy of your current ADR card, psychological assessment (original) and electronic medical certificate, when required

If you hold a heavy vehicle licence and are over 50, or got your C or C+E licence in the last 5 years, you do not need the medical certificate or the psychological assessment. If you hold a heavy vehicle licence and are aged 40 to 49, you need the psychological assessment.

Do I need to renew both components?

Yes, both Basic and the Tanks specialisation.

Is there a test?

Yes, at IMT.

How long is it valid?

5 years.

How far in advance should I start?

You can start up to 1 year before expiry. We recommend at least 5 months before, to keep your qualification without interruption and avoid fines.

How do I apply for the ADR card?

Once you pass the test, you go to an IMT counter with the completed Form 5 (Modelo 5) and the documents, and pay the €30 fee. You can also apply through IMT Online, but the card arrives faster if you apply at the counter.

Do I need a medical certificate and psychological assessment?

If you hold a heavy vehicle licence and are over 50, or got your C or C+E licence in the last 5 years, you do not need the medical certificate or the psychological assessment. If you hold a heavy vehicle licence and are aged 40 to 49, you need the psychological assessment.
