What you need to start
We handle the enrolment and paperwork with you.
- Identity document showing habitual residence in Portugal
- Portuguese tax number (NIF)
- Electronic medical certificate — done at the school
- Be at least 16 (you can enrol 6 months before)
- Under 18: authorisation from your legal guardian

Training
How you learn at MM Ouressa
Theory
32 hours
Road safety (7h), driving theory with motorcycle-specific topics (20h) and modules on hazard perception, distraction and eco-driving (5h).
Classes at the school and online study on the training platform.
Practical
12 hours
At least 120 km. Bike control on a training circuit, riding in traffic and defensive riding.
Driving lessons Monday to Saturday, with an instructor who follows your progress.
Tests: Theory test with 40 questions and a practical test.
The hours shown are the legal minimum. If you need more practice, each extra lesson costs 40 € (50 min).

Can I get the A1 licence at 16?
Yes. The minimum age is 16 and you can enrol in the 6 months before. If you are under 18, you need authorisation from your legal guardian.
I already have category B. Do I need the A1 to ride a 125?
With a category B licence and aged 25 or over, you can already ride category A1 motorcycles. If you are under 25, you need to get the A1.
How long does it take to get a motorcycle licence?
On average, 2 to 3 months. It depends on your pace and test availability.
